Once you receive the link in your inbox, download and unzip the folder of free video effects and import into DaVinci Resolve. This free pack includes three video effects (but we encourage you to purchase thefull pack if you’d like to download over 150 vintage scan effects!).
These high quality assets are easy to use; simply drag them into your timeline above your footage and change the Composite Mode to Screen to make them transparent. (You can experiment with changing the Composite Mode to achieve different looks.)
If you want to change the color of any of these free effects in DaVinci Resolve, navigate to your Color tab and use your Log wheels to adjust the Highlights and Temperature as desired. You can also use your RGB outputs to manually affect each of the channels.
Duplicating and layering these effects is a great way to customize your video project. You can also create a mask by duplicating your footage, stacking it on top of your CRT scan effect, then using the pen tool to draw a mask around the area you want to preserve.
Next, using the tracker, track forward to lengthen the duration of your mask. Increase the softness and add some Inside Blur. Then right click on your nodes and select Add Alpha Output, then drag the blue alpha to the output.
You can also use these free video effects to make a video transition in DaVinci Resolve. Grab one of the video effects, place it on top of your two clips, and right click to change the clip speed (we changed ours to 200%). Make a cut at the end of your first clip where the transition begins and make another cut in your second clip where the transition ends. Select your first clip and, in the Effects library, select the Digital Glitch effect and drag it onto your two short clips. Now when you play your footage through you’ll have a cool glitching transition between your two clips.
