Import these free video effects and transitions into Sony Vegas Pro. Right click inside your timeline and select Insert Video Track. Click and drag the video you want to use into your timeline above your footage. Trim your video effect as desired by hitting the S key to split it. To make the video transparent, find the box on the left where it says Level, click the green Composite Mode button, and change the Composite Mode to Add. (If you don’t see this button, click the three dots next to Level, select Edit Visible Button Set, and make sure Composite Mode is checked.)
To use the free fire video transitions in Sony Vegas, find the cut between your two clips where you want the video transition to be placed. Insert a new video track, drag in the video transition, change the Composite Mode to Add or Screen, and align it so that the video transition completely covers the screen right at the cut in between your two clips. (You can easily change the look of any of these free video effects by using different Composite Modes.)
To use the Fire Burn transitions, create three new video tracks. Each of these fire burn transitions has two parts: a track matte and an overlay. Drag in the track matte first above your footage. Align it above the cut in your two clips and adjust the duration of the track matte as needed.
Next, go to your clip and make a cut right where the video transition starts. Drag that second portion of your clip above the track matte effect. Click and drag the clip to elongate it so that it ends at the same frame that the transition ends.
The next step is to elongate your second clip so that the gap between your two clips is filled. Select your track matte and click the button beside your Level that says Make Compositing Child. Select your top clip and change its Composite Mode to Multiply (Mask).
Next, go to your Video Effects and search for Chroma Keyer. Drag the Default option onto your track matte. A Video Event FX box will pop up; click the eyedropper next to Color and click the black part of the track matte. Now when you play the video transition through, your first clip will burn away to reveal your second clip.
Finally, on your last available video track, drag in the Paper Burn transition. Right click it, go to Properties → Media → Alpha Channel and select Straight Unmatted. Adjust the speed of the burn to match the speed of the track matte by holding down Ctrl and drag until the duration matches. Now you have the perfect fire transition in Sony Vegas.
