How to Use our Free Effects & Video Transitions in DaVinci Resolve
Locate the Paper Rip FX pack on the CinePacks website (you can find it easily by clicking “Free Packs” on the menu to the left). All you have to do is provide us with your email address so we can send you the download link. Once you receive the link in your inbox, download and unzip the folder of free video effects and transitions. This free pack includes twelve free video transitions (all 4K Apple ProRes files and PNGs) as well as a few sound effects. Import all of these video effects into DaVinci Resolve by dragging them straight in.
To use the caution tape split screen effect, drag the effect into your timeline above your footage. This split screen effect works as a frame for four separate clips; use the Transform tool to position, resize, and crop each one as needed so each clip fits inside its own box.
The Crime Tape Wipe is an awesome video transition to use in DaVinci Resolve. Drag it into your timeline and place it so that the frame where the crime tape completely covers the screen aligns with the cut between your two clips. (Pro Tip: Select your video transition and hit M to create a marker exactly where the transition covers the screen. This will help when you align your clips.)
To use these free sound effects, simply drag one into your timeline, then trim and adjust the volume as desired. Hold down Alt to use your keyframes to further tweak the sound levels.
We have other amazing free video transitions included in this pack, such as the Duct Tape transition. Follow the same process as before with the Crime Tape Wipe when using the other video transitions. If you’d like to speed it up/slow it down, you can always right click and select Change Clip Speed.
To adjust the color of any of these free video effects, navigate to your Color Tab and adjust the color wheels until you achieve the look you want. You can also use your LUTs to experiment with different looks for these video effects.
You can further transform these paper transitions in DaVinci Resolve by navigating to your Effects Library and experimenting with the many options there. To apply any of these effects, go to your Fusion tab and adjust the effects there. We added the Film Damage effect to one of these free paper transitions and tweaked its appearance.
